Pure Essential Oils are a natural product and contain no preservatives or additives. A few of them can also be quite dangerous if not handled correctly. Some basic procedures should therefore be observed in order to ensure safety but also the quality of the oils in storage.
Storing essential oils:
Many Essential Oils are flammable and/or act as strong solvents. Eucalyptus Oil for example can be used to remove glue from old stickers or to strip paint.
Essential Oils are best stored in amber glass bottles with a tight lid. It is also advisable to fit bottles that don't have a dripolator (orifice reducer) with a child proof cap for safety reasons. Sun light (UV) and high temperatures are the main enemies of essential oils. Amber glass bottles offer good protection from UV. Essential Oil containers are best kept in a dark, cool place with temperature fluctuations kept to a minimum. Keep essential oils safely locked away from children at all times.
Stored at low temperatures, some oils will tend to solidify. This is no cause for alarm as they will turn liquid again once they reach room or in some cases body temperature. Most likely to solidify are the absolutes, vanilla, rose otto and fennel.
Under good conditions essential oils can be stored for periods of 6 months to several years. Some oils like myrrh, sandalwood, frankincense and patchouli will even improve or "mature" with age, very similar to a good wine. The shortest shelf life have all citrus oils with grapefruit generally being the first to deteriorate. Once these oils start to turn cloudy or smell rancid they should be disposed of.
Handling and using essential oils: When taking essential oils from the bottle, avoid contaminating the oil. Don't touch the top of the bottle or the inside of the lid. If you are using pipettes to transfer the oils, try to obtain disposable ones that you can throw away after use. Never use the same pipette for different oils. Used pipettes can also be stored for a short time in clip-seal plastic bags to use again later.
Avoid contact of essential oils with the skin as they can cause irritation. Using latex gloves and wearing protective glasses is recommended when handling essential oils. Essential oils must never be used internally. For application to the skin, dilute the essential oil with a good quality carrier oil e.g. jojoba, almond or olive oil. 3% essential oil with 97% carrier oil is a safe ratio.
Diffusers and oil lamps need only 2-3 drops of essential oil to scent a room for many hours. The cup on the oil lamp should be 3/4 filled with clean water, add to it the 2-3 drops of essential oil. Only then light the candle in the burner. Remember some essential oils are highly flammable, so be careful when using an essential oil lamp.
Observe these points and you will get a lot of enjoyment out of your essential oils.

Arthritis and Aromatherapy
Arthritis is an inflammation of the joints and is characterized by pain, stiffness, swelling, decreased range of movement and at a more serious stage deformity. Aromatherapy is a holistic approach to health and wellness by means of aromatic, plant derived scents. It is very much a traditonal method as well as a science that encompasses the intuitive and creative aspects of preparing special purpose blends.
Aromatherapy blends for the treatment of arthritis are usually made from pure essential oils, but also from hydrosols and -- more recently -- phytols. For application to the skin they have to be mixed with vegetable oil, a cream base or a carrier lotion. Essential Oils must always be used diluted when applied to the skin. A dilution of 3% essential oils in 97% base is generally regarded as very effective and safe.
Since the reasons for the occurance of arthritis are still not completely established, it is difficult to find a cure for the disease. Arthritis could be genetic, it could have to do with bone density loss, it could also be a type of infection caused by toxins released in the body. Even more likely it is a combination of several factors. It is -- at this stage -- only possible to treat the pain and symptoms caused by arthritis but not it's underlying cause.
Aromatherapy is one form of arthritis treatment, using a variety of essential oils. They can be added to the bath, massaged into the skin, inhaled or applied as compresses. The right mixture of essential oils will help to relax, promote pain relief and alleviate fatigue. Essential oils can also provide psychological benefits like improving the mood and reducing anxiety.
Some of the more suitable arthritis oils are Lavender, Juniper, Thyme, Rosemary, Benzoe, Eucalyptus, Camomile, Pine Scotch, Camphor, Angelica Root, Ginger, Origanum, Black Pepper and Lemon.
One of the most effective ways to use aromatherapy for relieving pain and reducing inflammation are hot compresses:
1. Fill a medium size bowl with hot, but not scalding water.
2. Add 3 to 6 drops of essential oil.
3. Fold a piece of sterile cotton cloth and dip it into the bowl.
4. Squeeze out excess water, but not too much.
5. Place the wet, hot cloth onto the affected area until it has cooled down to body temperature.
6. Repeat steps 3 through 5 at least two to three times.
7. Wrap the treated area in a dry and warm towel or blanket and leave the patient to rest for a while.
Another good way to use aromatherapy for arthritis relieve is to rub diluted essential oils (see above for dilution) onto pulse points and affected areas during the day. Applying essential oils throughout the day can help to alleviate pain and tension. The essential oils on the skin are quickly absorbed and enter the bloodstream. This is an excellent form of arthritis relief and works also well as a preventative measure.
Aromatherapy is a natural, safe and economical option to deal with the pain and symptoms of arthritis. And above all, it has no negative side effects as so many of the conventional treatments do. In mild cases of arthritis, aromatherapy is often all that is needed to make a person comfortable.

Bring Peace and Serenity to Your Life Through Hypnosis
Hypnosis: It happens to everyone, young and old, in everyday life and on special occasions. It is a state of being fully absorbed and attentive to such a degree that occurrences in the outside world become less important. It feels good to be in hypnosis. It is a time of total and complete relaxation for the mind, body and spirit.
Can anyone be hypnotized is a commonly asked question. Prof. McDougall, one of America’s greatest psychologists, has shown by careful experiment at Harvard that 90% or more of perfectly normal healthy persons may be hypnotized. Does this mean that 90% of the world is weak-minded? NO. The very best of all subjects for hypnotism is one who can focus his thoughts as directed by the hypnotist.
It is common for people to fear hypnosis, usually because they know little about it or have been influenced by misleading portrayals in the media. Hypnotherapists help thousands of people each year.
Hypnosis can be a very powerful tool to change your habits, for example to help you give up smoking. But it is not a “magic cure” and is generally only effective if, deep down, you really want to give up smoking or whatever habit it is you want to change. If you do want to change for the better, then hypnosis may work well for you.
Hypnosis aimed at curing bad habits is far to resolve these. Sometimes the therapy will uncover grievances that our conscious minds have long forgotten, but which are lodged in more effective if it seeks to replace the bad habit with a good one. For example, the hypnotist will implant the suggestion that the clients will want to take some exercise, eat fruit, or drink water– rather than having a smoke, eating too much sweet food, or whatever his or her bad habit is.
Close relationships, including marriages, can begin to fall apart even without us realizing it or knowing why. A hypnotherapist will enable clients to discover the causes of tensions, and encourage them our unconscious
Worry, stress and anxiety can be extremely draining. While most of us may suffer this experience for only short periods, for a few of us worry is all –consuming. It becomes a habit, and we may even forget what the original source of our concern was.
Hypnosis can unlock those reasons and allow our unconscious mind to overcome the constant stress, worry and anxiety. In the field of medicine many amazing things have been done with hypnotism. The most spectacular are the major operations performed on the body while hypnotism is used on the patient as the only anesthetic. They are also performing simple to complex dental procedures with hypnotism being the only anesthetic.
Since the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, hypnotists have grasped the extraordinary power of hypnosis to control pain in patients. The experience of pain is passed through our body and nerves, through the spinal cord, and on to a receptor in the brain. In hypnosis the aim is to persuade the mind that it is not receiving the message of pain, even though the body is still aware of the pain-causing sensation. This phenomenon is known as analgesia.
One of the most painful experiences in a woman’s life can be childbirth, which is why so many women understandably look for the most pain-free ways of giving birth. One of these is to do so under hypnosis it is a wonderful natural non chemical way to bring your baby into this world.
Hypnosis has great power to help you release the anger, fear, and pain of child sexual abuse without having to revisit the actually traumatic event. You simply discover the reaction to the memory and by reprogramming the reaction you reprogram the emotion that is connected to the event or memory. Hypnosis is a wonderful tool for turning negative behaviors, patterns, and internal conflicts around.
Hypnosis is an effective way of learning to use your deepest talents and skills to accomplish goals and change troubling habits. With the guidance of a skilled and compassionate hypnotherapist, hypnosis offers a unique approach to achieving changes that might otherwise be difficult or impossible.

Home Spa and Bodys Adaptation. The More the Better
The More The Faster The Better?Or Some Words About The Body's Adaptation.
"Change your mind
and you will change
your life"
Today we will talk about the tendency in our busy world to make more activity and procedures in one spa day to get fast results. The more the faster the better?
The word "SPA" can be translated from a Latin abbreviation for :S - salud, P- per, A-aqua, or "Health Through Water".
You are "Your Home Spa Owner" and so should be a bit professional in spa products and their use (methods, frequency, intensity etc) to obtain Health Through Water.
Today " You as a Home spa owner" have a "You as a client" at your Spa Home bath. Do 'You-owner" wish "You-client" better health and well-being? Yes. Do "You-owner" want to have a long-term valued customer "You-client" at your Home Spa? Yes.
How many procedures would you apply to "You-client" today? The more the better? How many baths per week would you recommend "You-client" at home: 1,2,3 and why?
"Do I need to know this ?" you might ask. In our busy information age it could be a good advantage to have some basic knowledge about your body's adaptation, stress definition and how your body responds to external loads to understand what you are doing, why and what results you can expect.
Being able to know when to begin and stop any activity and make a smart decision is an useful skill.
There are three main definitions in the body's adaptation theory:
Homeostasis - a tendency of the body to maintain its internal balance. Stressor- any activity (physical, mental and emotional) applied to the body to change this balance (homeostasis).
Adaptation- change or adjustment of the body's functions to the needs required by activity.
Running, walking, swimming, bathing, sunbathing, bicycling etc. are examples of physical stressors.
Stressors load our body with activity (or external stimulation). Activity in sufficient quantity for your body's condition will positively move the body away from its homeostasis. This activity leads to the body's response and adjustment of the body's functions to create positive health and well-being changes (so-called positive adaptation).
When the activity level is suitable for your body this activity can be named positive. Such an activity improves your health and well-being through positive adaptation. When the activity level is more than you can adjust this activity can be named negative.
The more is not always the better!
There are two types of external influences - smart influence and hard influence.
Smart influence (smart amount, smart dose, smart signal) triggers (stimulates, activates) mild positive beneficial body's reactions without overstressing the body.
Hard influence suppresses positive body's responses and results in body's defense and overstraining.

Tap Away Your Fears
In my workshops we use energy techniques that involve tapping with your fingers on the ends of the energy meridians on your face, upper body, and hands. I would like to tell you why we do.
For more than forty years I had a fear of heights that kept me from hiking in the mountains with my husband Jim and our kids, made me very nervous about flying, and super cautious when climbing stairs. My family loves to be at the tallest place, looking out at whatever they can see from there. Although I tried many times to join them in climbing the forest tower stairs or surveying Disney World from the highest places they could find, the shaking knees, upset stomach, rapid heartbeat and shortness of breathe kept me from doing so.
Ten years or so ago I attended a conference in Keystone, Colorado. The day before the conference I had my worst experience ever with my fear of heights. We went to Seven Falls outside of Colorado Springs. I love waterfalls and wanted desperately to climb the open wooden stairs to the top to see all the falls. I got up about 30 steps and had so much fear that I wasn’t ever sure I would make it back down. I had visions of them having to get a crane to lift me off the side of the mountain. And although it was very embarrassing I went down on my seat like little kids do.
I was sure I would never make it to the top of any mountain. The next day at the conference Jack Canfield (of author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul books) introduced the 300 or so participants to what he called the 5 Minute Phobia Cure. He asked us to think about a phobic experience that we had had and he had us tap on our face and hand as we named and imaged our fear. It seemed like a very strange thing to do, but I tried it. We had rated our fears on a 1-10 scale before the exercise- mine was a 10 as I recalled the experience at Seven Falls. After we had tapped for a minute or so we rated our fears again. To my amazement it seemed as though it had gone away totally. I couldn’t believe it. When the session ended an hour or so later I exclaimed to my husband, who had not attended the session, “Take me someplace high!”
He looked at me as though I had flipped out, and after I told him about the “Phobia cure” he was sure of it. But he did as I asked and he watched in amazement as I leaned over the railing and looked down the mountains from the highest place we could find. And it was true! The fear was totally gone. And to this day it has not returned. My nervousness with flying is also gone – I even go up with Jim in his little Ultralight airplane. Since that time I have helped many others get over their fear of heights and flying, and even test anxiety. This process is called Emotional Freedom Techniques or EFT.
A couple of months ago we went back to Colorado and back to Seven Springs. I climbed to the top without any hesitation. It felt so good to be free of the fears. Although you can learn to do the tapping and tap on your own, for many issues there seems to be even greater benefit in tapping with a group or a skilled therapist. I tap for all kinds of things, and some disappear immediately while others require repeated tapping sessions. It feels so good to be free of fears and phobias.

The Power of Ganoderma in Oriental Medicine
Ganoderma, a rare variety of Mushroom credited with the highest medicinal qualities by the classic Chinese ‘Seng Nong’ is indeed a subject of much research from the ancient china of 100 B.C. or earlier to the modern times by various universities and research organizations. It is also known as Linghzi in China and Reishi in Japan.
It is said that in the ancient times anyone who found the rare Linghzi herb never revealed the place and kept it a secret of health, longevity and wealth. The Japanese revered the herb as ‘God’s Herb’ where it is known as Reishi.
Lingzhi herbal mushrooms in medicine was considered so auspicious that its medical efficacy has been attested to in the oldest Chinese medical text (over 2,000 years old). The book, which is known in Japan as "Shinnoh Honsohkyo", is now accepted as being the original textbook of Oriental medical science. In it, 365 kinds of medicines are classified and explained. Ganoderma is classified as “Superior Herb” or "God's Herbs" and they are for perpetual youth and longevity. The book states that for "superior" medicines, any amount can be taken as desired on a continuous basis with no unfavorable effects. Of the superior medicines listed in the text, Lingzhi was rated number one. You can see how important and powerful Lingzhi was considered in ancient times. It achieved its ranking in the Chinese text not because of its symbolic importance as a good omen but because of its medicinal properties. Centuries ago, Lingzhi was said to be a medicine that would grant you eternal youth and longevity.
But after 2,000 years, Lingzhi has jumped into the spotlight as a specific medicine for cancer. This must be a bitter irony for those in the modern medical profession who discounted the herbal remedies and oriental medicine as being “old wives' tales". The families of many cancer patients who have received a diagnostic "death sentence" now seek reishi as the only way left for them.
The Linghzi Mushrooms grows only on old tree barks with specific conditions difficult to replicate.
Till 1971 the herb was so rare that it was hardly sited except in mountainous areas. Many researchers had attempted to plant Ganoderma artificially but failed. Till in 1971 directed by Naoi Department of Agriculture and Professor Zenzaburo Kasai, Kyoto University made a breakthrough in its cultivation.
Presently the herb is grown only by 10 countries. The three major killers these days are: cancer, cerebrosis and coronary diseases. The latter two have their etiology closely linked to the blood circulatory system. Related problems like stroke, heart block, arteriosclerosis, obesity etc. are all tied to problems in the blood circulation. One out of three persons dies from one of the above ailments everyday.
Lingzhi can correct this imbalance and strengthen the system to prevent further deterioration.
What is noteworthy are its preventive capabilities. For the 21st century man, stressed out, poisoned by the polluted atmosphere, wrong food habits and drug induced illnesses of the modern medicine. Ganoderma has a history of 3,000 years, during which time it is widely used by many people with no reported unfavorable side effects. It is therefore highly recommend for prevention.
